Marietta Mayor Joe A. Matthews and the City of Marietta Code Enforcement Office are hosting a Public Meeting on Tuesday evening August 28, 2018 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Auditorium on the campus of Washington State Community College.

Mayor Matthews and the City of Marietta would like to invite you to attend this very important and educational Public Meeting.

The Topic of the Public Meeting will be on “County Land Reutilization Corporations” commonly known as “County Land Banks”. Jim Rokakis, Vice President Western Reserve Land Conservancy and Director Thriving Communities Institute, and Robin Thomas, Western Reserve Conservancy Land Bank Program Director will be providing us a presentation on County Land Banks, what they are, the history of them, how they are formed, what section of the Ohio Revised Code allows them and what the benefits of County Land Banks are to counties and cities.

Jim Rokakis, as then the Cuyahoga County Treasurer, was instrumental in getting State Legislators to pass a bill allowing Cuyahoga County Commissioners to create the first modern land bank back in 2008. There are now 53 County Land Banks in Ohio and others currently looking at creating one. County Land Banks are also used throughout the US by counties and cities in combating the ever increasing problem of vacant, abandoned, blighted properties.

As we know, vacant, abandoned, blighted properties are an increasing problem in the City of Marietta, Washington County and Nationwide. This problem has a huge effect on neighborhoods, property values, crime, and overall economic development. It’s time we take back our neighborhoods.

Therefore, please join us on Tuesday August 28, 2018 to learn about this very effective tool established and allowed by the Ohio Revised Code and used throughout the State and Nationwide.
