Marietta City Council Committees

Standing Committees
The members of Marietta City Council sit on various committees which are responsible for bills that are referred to their respective committees. There are seven standing committees, including Finance and Taxation, Streets and Transportation, Water, Sewers and Sanitation, Public Lands, Buildings and Parks, Employee Relations, Police and Fire and Planning, Zoning, Annexation and Housing. After a bill is introduced to the committee, it is discussed, deliberated and then a vote of recommendation to send it to the city law director to prepare for legislation. Then the legislation is sent back to council where it is voted on in its original form and at this point amendments to the legislation may be made from the floor.

Assignments
The president of council shall promptly following election appoint all council members to the standing committees. Committees shall be composed of at least three members, who shall serve for the term of the president of council. All members of council may attend and participate in committee meetings, but only the committee chairman, two members of the committee or any three members of council may request the legislation be prepared by the city law director after deliberation.
