The formation of the Monument Committee was announced by Mayor Michael Mullen at the annual Washington County Historical Society’s Pioneer Day Dinner on April 7, 2006 marking the 218th Anniversary of the founding of Marietta. Since that time, the committee has met dozens of times and have begun to work on cataloguing and evaluating the status of the hundreds of plaques, memorials, monuments and other historically or locally significant items throughout the city.

This part of the city’s website will be a place where residents, tourists and historical researchers can learn who built them, what is being done to preserve them, where they are located, when were they constructed or dedicated, and why they are significant.

In the coming months, this committee hopes to add many more photos and descriptions of these treasures for you to enjoy, many that even the most avid Marietta researcher have never seen before. Thank you for your support of the work of our committee to preserve our town's rich history for future generations to enjoy every day.
